WIN OR LOOSE DOESN'T MATTER, IT'S HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME THAT COUNTS
- PARENTS QUICK TIPS
Sportsmanship is important for kids to learn. Set a good example
on the sidelines by offering positive encouragement and support.
Weather can be unpredictable. Be prepared by bringing items such
as sunscreen, rain jackets and blankets ( referees/league
officials will determine whether on not a game should be called
off due to poor weather conditions).
Proper hydration is the key to a good game. Be sure to bring
plenty of water for kids to drink both before and after their
practices and games. Healthy snacks like orange wedges, grapes
and sports drinks are also good for replenishing nutrients after
strenuous activity.
Get to the soccer field 1/2 hour early. Players need adequate
time to warn up and stretch before practice or game time.
Pay attention to what your kids are wearing. Before each game
the referee will check each player for the following: Proper
uniform, shoes, shin guards (must be the correct size and
covered with socks). Jewelry and potentially dangerous metal
objects, which must be removed (medical alert and religious
jewelry are allowed if determined to be safe).
In competition someone always loses. If you win do it
gracefully, not boastfully. If you lose, do not allow your child
to become negative.
Too much competition, too soon, can slow down a child's progress
in skill development.
Make fun and technique development your first priority.
Your child's coach will need all the support and help you can
offer. Please make yourself available and volunteer all the time
you can spare.
Disagreements with the coach or officials do not belong on the
public soccer field. Questions, input and positive suggestions
should be voiced to the coach and/or club in an adult
atmosphere. (The youth player should not be present).
The overall purpose is to enjoy the game and the opportunity to
be with your child on the field of play.
